Your Botox treatment at Magnolia House

Our expert facial aesthetics clinician, Dr Ashka Patel, will first schedule an in-depth consultation with you to assess your suitability for the Botox treatment. Dr Patel will learn about your needs and ask what results you would like to achieve, before tailoring your treatment accordingly for the best outcome.

It is a low risk procedure. Areas of the face to be treated are injected with an extremely fine needle to accurately deliver a small amount of Botox. A numbing cream can also be applied beforehand, if required.

Botulinum toxin treatment is quick (10-15 minutes) with minimal discomfort and there is no down time or recovery period. Results may take a couple of days to show and full results should be achieved about a week after treatment. The number of injections and amount of Botox used varies between individuals and the number of areas to be treated.

Results normally last around 3-4 months, after which a top up treatment will be required to prevent wrinkles from reappearing. With regular treatment, results will last longer, so appointments can be less frequent.

Botox FAQs

How quickly will I see Botox results?

Most people begin to notice the initial effects of Botox within 3 to 5 days following the injection. These early changes typically include a softening of fine lines and a gradual reduction in muscle movement in the treated areas. However, the full results generally take between 7 to 14 days to develop completely.

This time frame allows the botulinum toxin to fully bind to the nerve endings, effectively relaxing the targeted muscles and smoothing the overlying skin. It’s worth noting that individual response times can vary slightly depending on factors such as metabolism, muscle strength, treatment area, and whether it’s a first-time or repeat treatment.

For optimal results, it’s important to follow your practitioner’s aftercare advice, which may include avoiding strenuous exercise, excessive heat, or rubbing the treated area for at least 24 hours. Consistency in treatment also contributes to more predictable and longer-lasting outcomes over time.

Can Botox be reversed?

Botox cannot be reversed in the traditional sense, as there is no known antidote that can immediately undo its effects once injected. Botox works by temporarily blocking nerve signals to targeted muscles, and this action gradually diminishes over time. Typically, the effects wear off naturally within 3 to 6 months, depending on individual metabolism, muscle activity, and the dosage administered.

If undesired results occur—such as asymmetry or limited movement—minor adjustments can sometimes be made by a practitioner using additional Botox to balance the appearance. In cases of mild complications, the body will progressively metabolise the product, restoring normal muscle function with time.

Choosing a qualified and experienced injector is the best way to minimise risks and ensure a safe, natural-looking outcome.

Does Botox hurt?

Botox injections are generally well-tolerated and cause only minimal discomfort. Most patients describe the sensation as a slight pinching or stinging feeling, similar to a quick insect bite. The needles used are very fine, and the treatment is usually completed within 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated.

To enhance comfort, many clinics apply a topical numbing cream or use ice packs prior to the procedure. While some sensitivity may occur at the injection sites, such as mild redness, swelling, or a light ache, these effects are typically short-lived and resolve within a few hours.

For those with a low pain threshold, informing your practitioner beforehand allows them to take additional steps to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible.

Can I wear makeup after Botox?

It’s generally recommended to avoid wearing makeup for at least 4 to 6 hours after receiving Botox injections. This precaution helps minimise the risk of irritation or infection at the injection sites, which are temporarily more sensitive following treatment. Applying makeup too soon may also involve rubbing or pressing on the skin, which could inadvertently displace the Botox and affect the outcome.

After the initial few hours, light makeup can be safely applied, but it’s important to use clean brushes and applicators to reduce the risk of introducing bacteria. Avoid any vigorous rubbing or massage of the treated areas for at least 24 hours, as this can interfere with the even distribution of the product.

If you’re unsure, your practitioner may provide specific guidance tailored to your skin type and the areas treated. Following aftercare advice carefully ensures the best aesthetic results and minimises any potential side effects.

Will Botox make my face look frozen?

When administered correctly by a qualified practitioner, Botox should not make your face look frozen or expressionless. This is a common misconception, often stemming from overuse or poorly placed injections. The goal of professional Botox treatment is to soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while maintaining your natural facial expressions.

A skilled practitioner will assess your facial anatomy, muscle movement, and aesthetic goals, then tailor the dosage and injection sites accordingly. The result is a subtle, refreshed look—not a stiff or overly smooth appearance.

Frozen or unnatural results typically occur when too much product is used, or when it’s applied without a personalised approach. Choosing a reputable clinic with a strong track record in facial aesthetics is key to achieving balanced, natural-looking results.

What happens if I stop using Botox?

If you decide to stop using Botox, the effects will gradually wear off over a period of three to six months, depending on how quickly your body metabolises the treatment. As the muscle activity returns to normal, fine lines and wrinkles will slowly reappear, typically returning to their pre-treatment appearance.

Importantly, Botox does not worsen wrinkles or accelerate the ageing process if discontinued. However, without regular treatments, the preventative benefits—such as delaying the deepening of expression lines—will no longer be active.

Some clients notice that their skin looks more relaxed or smoother after long-term use of Botox due to reduced muscle movement over time. Even after stopping, many find that their lines are less pronounced than before because they’ve not been creasing the skin as frequently during treatment.

In short, stopping Botox simply allows your facial muscles to resume their natural movement, and your appearance will revert back to how it was prior to treatment—not worse, just natural.
